Session Negative 0.5

Intro

It has been four years since the end of the Last War. The world of Eberron is still putting itself together, trying to reconcile its war-torn past with the endless possibilities of its future. Millions lost their lives; some still seek revenge for the fallen, whereas others hope for a peaceful future. But there has been one constant: the Dragonmarked Houses claim the power granted by their connection to the progenitor dragon upon which every thing living walks, crawls, or flies.

Sharn, the City of Towers, the City of Lost Souls, the City of a Thousand Eyes, the City of Knives, the Gateway to Xen'drik, the Gateway to Perdition: untold thousands call the city home, but none know all of its secrets. The day began like any other day in Sharn, with at least one exception: a group of unlikely adventurers find themselves investigating why one Nerius Graeme (GRAY-um) was headed for the Deathsgate Guild's docket, marked "Extremely dangerous. Wanted: Alive 500 gp, Dead 50 gp." Seeking to secure the mark before the official Guild can, the adventurers find themselves outside his front door, which appears to suck in the light and warmth of the rest of the tower.

Synopsis

A group of unrelated adventurers find themselves outside an upscale house in Providence Tower. Successfully avoiding a pit trap, they find the bodies of 4 couriers from House Orien. They open one of the magically sealed postal bags, find it contains mail and parcels, and then take the other three satchels without opening them.

Proceeding into the first room, they find it littered with skeletons. The skeletons come to life and attack the adventurers, but are quickly dispatched. Further in the room they find two doors: one extremely damaged and burned mundane pine door, and a fine mahogany magical door. Dalton ir'Disco knocks the pine door off of its hinges, and finds a narrow hallway with 12 corpses at the end, next to a small dais with a blood-stained ivory bowl and another maghogany door. The warlock then proceeds to the other door, who asks inquisitive questions: "What am I guarding?" "Why do you not enter with the walking dead?" "What color is the sky?" "What is another good question?" Answering some questions more curtly than others, the party decides a good question would be "What is your name?" which the door then asks, and it is given the name "Doorothy."

Doorothy opens, revealing a much cleaner hallway with a pristine ivory bowl in al alcove next to another mahogany door. Written in draconic is a passage which roughly translates to "Spill the water of life in order to open the door." Providing blood into the pristine bowl, the door at the end of the other hallway opens.

The party then proceeds into the next room. Tossing the body of a dead halfling from the hallway, it animates as a zombie once it passes into the next room, but takes no actions. After it is killed, the party notices a profane altar with a single candle burning on it, with barred iron double door leading into the next room. After Balius Stormrage knocks on the door, they are greeted by an upset Nerius Graeme, who proceeds to use both of his charges of a Wand of Fireballs on the party through a small slit, before retreating and summoning his remaining zombies to protect him.

The party opens the slit in the door and shoves Phoebe through, who removes the giant bar from the door and lets the rest of the party in. The party fights and defeats the five final zombies and head upstairs into a necromantic library, where Nerius attacks the intruders. After a failed attempt to bribe ir'Disco into betraying others, he is soundly defeated. In his death throws, he summons the latent necromantic powers he has been collecting over the decades and returns to unlife, where he brings his revenge: he plane shifts away, taking with him the central supporting column of his multi-story house, leading to the entire Providence Tower collapsing.

The party narrowly escapes, taking a few necrotic texts along the way, tossing away any incriminating Orien satchels into the rubble.
